| MT-1 (C₇₈H₁₁₁N₂₁O₁₉) is a laboratory-synthesized linear peptide analog of α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH) with the sequence Ac-Ser-Tyr-Ser-Met-Glu-His-Phe-Arg-Trp-Gly-Lys-Pro-Val-NH₂. In experimental systems, it is used to evaluate melanocortin receptor activity—particularly MC1R—through engagement of cAMP-dependent signaling pathways associated with pigmentation and cellular photoprotection. As a result, Melanotan I is commonly applied in receptor pharmacology and cell signaling research focused on peptide–GPCR interactions and downstream transcriptional regulation mechanisms.
